Hand painted blackbirds against a cream glaze - a small kitchen object with a distinctive detail.
This vintage ceramic pie funnel was handmade by Stuart Bass in Devon and is signed “S Bass”. The blackbird decoration stands out against its creamy glaze, bringing an illustrated wildlife motif to a practical baking form. Originally designed to release steam from a pie, it combines everyday function with the individuality of studio pottery.
Place it among everyday crockery or beside a favourite cookery book, where the painted birds invite a closer look. Its cream and black palette sits easily alongside simple modern ceramics, adding detail without introducing a strong new colour.
