A wonderfully characterful Nutbrown pie funnel in a rich mustard yellow glaze, dating from around the 1940s–1950s and retaining its original maker’s mark.
Made from ironstone, this traditional baking piece offers a lovely glimpse into the rituals of the British kitchen. Pie funnels were designed to release steam from homemade pies while helping pastry cook evenly, and have since become much-loved pieces of vintage kitchenalia.
The warm mustard glaze gives this example particular decorative appeal, while its gently aged surface adds to the sense of history. It would sit beautifully amongst traditional kitchenalia, on an open shelf or as part of a country kitchen display.
Nutbrown pieces are especially appealing to collectors of British domestic pottery, and this example has the simple, practical character that makes vintage baking accessories so enjoyable to collect.
A charming piece of mid-century kitchen history with all the warmth and nostalgia of traditional home baking.
