Vintage Midwinter Blackbird Pie Funnel, Based on a Clarice Cliff Design

Glossy black, a yellow beak and a white perch for a bold little silhouette.

This vintage Midwinter pie funnel combines a stylised blackbird with a contrasting white base. The three colour palette gives the ceramic form a graphic quality, with the bright beak drawing attention to the bird’s face.

Made in England during the mid century period, this pie funnel is based on a Clarice Cliff design. Originally created to release steam from beneath a pie crust, its animal form brings a bold decorative detail to a practical kitchen tool.

Display it beside plain contemporary pottery, where the contrasting colours can stand out. It also works among cookbooks and wooden utensils, adding a small sculptural detail to an open kitchen shelf.

A distinctive piece of British kitchenalia and a thoughtful vintage gift for someone who enjoys ceramic design or baking.
