A striking vintage green glass sugar shaker in patterned pressed glass, complete with its original metal screw top lid.
The rich green glass gives this early twentieth century sugar shaker an immediate presence, while the patterned pressed glass body adds texture and catches the light beautifully. Its original metal lid completes the traditional form, retaining the practical details of an object made for everyday use.
Pressed glass brought decorative pattern and colour into ordinary British homes, allowing useful household pieces to have a little visual appeal of their own. This shaker is a particularly pleasing example, combining the jewel like quality of green glass with the straightforward design of traditional tableware.
Originally intended for the dining table, it would have been used to keep sugar close at hand while serving tea or coffee. Today, its decorative quality makes it equally appealing displayed amongst vintage glassware, on a dresser or as part of a carefully assembled kitchen collection.
The generous size gives it a lovely presence, while the translucent green glass brings a subtle flash of colour wherever it is displayed.
A beautiful example of early twentieth century tableware, combining useful design with the enduring appeal of pressed glass.
