Illustrated scenes, amusing snippets of text and an unexpected shape for a houseplant.
This vintage ceramic chamber pot was made by Arthur Wood & Son in Staffordshire during the 1930s–1940s. Nursery rhyme-inspired illustrations and humorous text decorate its surface, bringing an eccentric detail to an everyday household vessel. The decoration rewards a closer look, with different scenes visible as the pot is turned.
Use it as a decorative outer pot for a houseplant in its own nursery container, letting the foliage contrast with the illustrated ceramic. Its generous proportions also give it presence displayed alone on a sideboard or beside simpler modern pottery.
