John Hill & Co 1920s Grazing Cream Cow Lead Farm Figure

A charming 1920s John Hill & Co grazing cow in hand painted lead, with cream and black colouring, a gentle natural pose and the quiet character of an early British farmyard miniature.
The lowered head and relaxed stance capture a simple moment of traditional farm life, giving this little figure a lovely sense of movement and character. Its cream and black painted finish has mellowed naturally over time, adding an attractive aged quality to the surface.
At approximately 4 cm long, this is a more compact John Hill & Co animal than some of the larger farm figures from the period. Its smaller scale gives it an appealing delicacy, while the simple modelling and carefully painted detail retain the unmistakable character of early lead farm animals.
John Hill & Co produced miniature animals and rural figures during the early twentieth century, reflecting familiar scenes from the countryside in small scale. This grazing cow is a lovely example of that tradition, with its honest signs of age adding to the sense that it has genuinely survived from the 1920s.
A small but beautifully characterful piece of early British farm modelling, with a peaceful pose and authentic vintage patina.
