With its beautifully modelled form, glossy brown finish and wonderfully expressive character, this John Beswick hare is as appealing displayed on a shelf as it is tucked away with a few coins.
There is something particularly charming about this Beswick hare. Standing upright with its long ears and alert expression, the realistic modelling gives it a lovely sense of character, while the glossy hand painted brown finish brings out the detail of the ceramic form.
Dating from 2002, this is an earlier John Beswick moneybox marked with the large scale JBMBA2 model number. It retains its original rubber bung, making it an especially appealing example for anyone who enjoys collecting Beswick animals or simply wants something a little different for the home.
The date also places this hare at an interesting point in the history of the Beswick name. The original Beswick factory in Stoke on Trent closed in 2002, making this a piece from around the end of the company’s original manufacturing period.
Whether displayed among ceramics, books and collected objects or given pride of place on its own, this is a lovely example of the characterful animal pieces that have made John Beswick so collectable.
