Mellor’s Mustard was founded in 1924 in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, initially producing only mustard. Despite early struggles in a town known for engineering and textiles, the business grew under Malcolm Foster, who became Managing Director in 1938. With a family background in mustard manufacturing, he helped establish Mellor’s as a recognised name. Over time, the company unexpectedly found success in mint production, eventually becoming the UK’s largest buyer of fresh mint. The factory’s operations left a lasting impression on Brighouse, with the scent of mint filling the air. Mellor’s was eventually acquired by a multinational company, and the brand faded into history.
