A characterful 1930s Britains farm figure depicting a woman in a pastel pink dress and white apron, carrying a woven basket and umbrella with plenty of tiny period detail.
Made by Britains Ltd as part of the Model Home Farm Series, this hollow cast lead figure captures one of the everyday characters of rural life. Her bonnet style head covering, basket and umbrella give her an especially recognisable appearance, while the soft pink and white colouring adds a lovely touch of colour to the hand painted finish.
The articulated right arm swivels at the shoulder, a distinctive feature of these early Britains figures that gives the little character an appealing sense of movement. At just over 5 cm tall, she is remarkably detailed for such a small figure.
Dating from the 1930s, she belongs to the pre war period of Britains figure making and has the genuine aged character of an original piece, including expected paint loss to the finish.
