A rare little pair of 1930s Britains figures, featuring a milk maid and country gentleman in traditional rural dress. Their smaller scale gives them an especially appealing presence.
Made by Britains Ltd in hollow cast lead, these two hand painted figures capture the everyday characters of the British countryside in miniature. The milk maid and gentleman have distinct clothing and poses, giving the pair a lovely sense of personality and story.
Their diminutive size is part of what makes this pair particularly special. At around 5 cm tall, they have the fine proportions and individual character associated with early Britains figures, while taking up very little space within a collection.
Dating from the pre war period, they offer a charming glimpse into the rural world that inspired Britains’ Home Farm figures. The original painted finish has survived remarkably well, with only minimal paint loss.
