A characterful 1920s Britains crow in hand painted lead, with a black finish, yellow beak detail and its original green stand.
Measuring just 2 cm high, this little crow has an appealing presence despite its tiny scale. The dark painted body and contrasting yellow beak give the figure a simple but distinctive appearance, while the original green base adds a lovely touch of colour.
Made by Britains Ltd during the 1920s, this early bird figure reflects the company’s attention to familiar animals and birds from the British countryside. The hand painted finish has been remarkably well preserved, retaining much of the original detail after more than a century.
The crow is a particularly interesting addition to the early Britains birds, bringing a more natural woodland and hedgerow character to the collection alongside the hens, ducks and other farmyard animals. Its small scale also makes it a lovely example of the detailed miniature world created by these early figures.
A distinctive little 1920s bird with excellent original detail and the quiet character of the British countryside.
