A deep blue ground, an unknown sitter and worn gilt - a portrait with presence.
This original antique oil painting depicts a woman against a deep blue background, her face and clothing framed by an oval gilt surround. The artist and sitter are unknown. Presented beneath original glass, the painting sits within a layered frame whose worn finish adds texture around the composition.
Hang it above a console or mix it with photographs and modern artwork on a gallery wall. The oval shape breaks up an arrangement of rectangular frames, while the blue and aged gold bring depth to a room with simple furnishings.
