A wonderfully charming Grimwades Bon Soir jug, decorated with its much loved black cat design and dating to around 1900.

Produced by Grimwades in Staffordshire, this delightful jug comes from the world of early British nursery ware, where practical tableware was brought to life with playful illustrations and colourful decoration. The Bon Soir cats are particularly appealing, with their expressive feline figures, hand painted details and distinctive green rim giving the piece plenty of personality.

Dating from around 1900, the jug has the lovely sense of age and character that comes with an original Edwardian piece. Made for nursery and children’s tableware, these whimsical designs have become increasingly appreciated by collectors for their charm, individuality and glimpse into everyday life from another era.

The combination of the black cat motif, soft aged decoration and traditional Staffordshire form gives this jug an especially decorative presence. It would sit beautifully amongst antique ceramics, nursery ware, cat themed pieces or a more eclectic collection of treasured kitchenalia.

An enchanting piece of early 20th century British nursery ware, with a little feline character all of its own.
