Antique Brown & Polson Blancmange Mould Early 1900s

A fascinating piece of early twentieth century kitchen history, with Brown & Polson advertising, printed recipe detail and beautifully aged stoneware.

Dating from the early 1900s, this Brown & Polson blancmange mould brings together two things that were once closely connected in the British kitchen: branded food products and the recipes used to turn them into family favourites. Made from glazed stoneware, the mould features printed recipe detail alongside its original advertising decoration.

Brown & Polson were well known for their cornflour products and recipe led advertising, helping to introduce new ideas for cooking and baking into British homes. Kitchenware carrying their name became part of that everyday experience, making this mould an especially interesting survivor from the period.

The printed recipe remains legible, giving the piece an added sense of history and making it possible to imagine it in use more than a century ago. Blancmange was a familiar household dessert, and moulds such as this helped give simple recipes their decorative finish when presented at the table.

Its substantial size and softly aged stoneware give it a lovely presence as a display piece. It would look equally at home amongst antique baking pieces, advertising ceramics or traditional kitchenware, where the printed detail can be properly appreciated.
