Deep plum, oversized botanicals and raised wool embroidery - a textile with presence.
This antique Arts and Crafts panel, believed to date from c.1890, features sunflowers, irises and sweeping foliage in mustard, ochre and warm yellow crewel wool. Raised French knot sunflower centres and an asymmetric stepped edge give it texture and structure.
Originally a mantel pelmet, the embroidered panel was extended around twenty years ago with plum vintage twill chenille and a protective gold coloured cotton lining. Its generous scale offers a focal point above a window, bringing colour and craftsmanship into a modern interior alongside simpler furnishings.
