Product description:
A quietly evocative antique landscape watercolour dated 1904 (or possibly 1909), with a soft, atmospheric quality reminiscent of early 20th-century British landscape work and gently aligned with the style of Patrick Vincent Duffy. The piece carries a faint, enigmatic signature and is presented in its original hand-painted green wooden frame, showing the honest wear and scattered paint scratches of more than a century of life.
To the reverse sits the fascinating provenance of Stent, Clarke & Co. Ltd., High Street, Guildford, a respected early 20th-century picture-framing business whose roots reach back to the 1920s as William Stent Printers and quite possibly earlier. Their well-known workshops specialised in framing, mount cutting, and gilding, adding a further layer of local history to this already characterful piece.
Finished with its original early glass and presented in a gently timeworn frame, this is a soulful artwork for lovers of heritage landscapes and authentic turn-of-the-century charm.
