1930s Cadbury Cococub Will Mouse Lead Figure, Britains

A tiny mouse with a wonderfully timeworn appearance, Will Mouse is a quiet little survivor from the imaginative world of the 1930s Cadbury Cococubs.

This original Will Mouse figure was produced by Britains Ltd for Cadbury Bournville during the 1930s. Cast in hollow lead with subtle painted detail, his small scale and expressive shape give him a particularly gentle character.

The Cococubs were created around Cadbury’s cocoa advertising, introducing children to a cast of named characters that could be collected and enjoyed. The figures offer a fascinating glimpse into a time when advertising, storytelling and childhood collecting came together, while their production by Britains Ltd reflects the craftsmanship of early British lead toys.

Will has experienced considerably more wear to his original paint than some of the other Cococubs, leaving a naturally aged surface that shows the passage of almost a century. The figure remains structurally good, with no repairs or repaints noted.

At just 3.5 cm tall, he would be lovely displayed amongst other Cococubs, vintage animal figures or small curiosities, where his understated appearance can be appreciated.

A beautifully timeworn little piece of 1930s Cadbury history, with the patina of a figure that has genuinely lived a life.
