1930s Cadbury Cococub Percy Parrot Lead Figure, Britains

With his bright plumage, turned head and wonderfully alert pose, Percy Parrot is a little figure with plenty to say for himself.

This original Percy Parrot figure was produced by Britains Ltd for Cadbury Bournville during the 1930s. Hand painted in bright parrot colours, his distinctive turned head gives him an unusually lively appearance, as though he has just noticed something happening nearby.

The Cococubs were created around Cadbury’s cocoa advertising during the 1930s, bringing together a cast of named characters with their own personalities and distinctive designs. Their small scale and expressive poses made them particularly memorable, while their production by Britains Ltd connects them with the craftsmanship of early British lead figures.

Percy has retained his colourful original finish, with light paint wear consistent with age. At 4.5 cm tall, he is one of the more substantial characters in the collection and makes an especially lively addition to a group of Cococubs or a display of vintage British miniatures.

A wonderfully colourful little survivor from 1930s Cadbury advertising, with an expression that seems to give him a life of his own.
