1930s Cadbury Cococub Monty Monkey Lead Figure, Britains

A lively pose and warm brown colouring give this miniature monkey a playful presence.

This original 1930s Monty Monkey figure was made by Britains Ltd for Cadbury’s Cococub series. Cast in hollow lead, he retains much of his original brown painted finish, with light wear and small areas of paint loss.

The Cococub characters were created by British illustrator Ernest Aris. Issued in pre war Cadbury Bournville Cocoa tins, the figures brought his illustrated animals into everyday homes as part of Cadbury’s advertising.

At just 3.5 cm tall, Monty adds an unexpected animal detail to a bookshelf or small cabinet. His warm colouring sits easily alongside natural wood and neutral ceramics, while his animated pose offers a playful contrast to their simpler forms.

A tiny piece of British advertising history with a distinctive sense of movement.
