1930s Cadbury Cococub Henrietta Fussy Feathers Lead Figure, Britains

With her headscarf, walking stick and wonderfully individual appearance, Henrietta Fussy Feathers is a tiny character with a story all her own.

This original Henrietta Fussy Feathers figure was produced by Britains Ltd for Cadbury Bournville during the 1930s. Cast in hollow lead and hand painted, she has the distinctive details that make her instantly recognisable, from her little headscarf to the walking stick held at her side.

The Cococubs were part of Cadbury’s imaginative approach to advertising during the 1930s. The named characters were created around Cadbury cocoa and brought a sense of story and personality to what might otherwise have been a simple promotional gift. The miniature figures offer a lovely glimpse into a time when advertising, illustration and childhood collecting were closely connected.

Henrietta has naturally lost much of her original paint over the decades, leaving an aged and wonderfully honest surface. There is also a small hole to one side. These signs of age are clearly part of her history and give this tiny figure the presence of something that has genuinely survived from the 1930s.

Her unusual appearance makes her particularly enjoyable displayed amongst other Cococubs, early British figures or small vintage curiosities.
