1930s Cadbury Cococub Gussie Robin Lead Figure, Britains

A little red breasted character from the 1930s, Gussie Robin brings a gentle touch of British wildlife to the wonderfully imaginative world of the Cadbury Cococubs.

This original Gussie Robin figure was produced by Britains Ltd for Cadbury Bournville during the 1930s. Hand painted in warm red and brown tones, this tiny bird has a simple yet expressive appearance that captures the character of a familiar garden visitor.

The Cococubs brought together a cast of named characters created around Cadbury’s cocoa advertising, giving children miniature figures to accompany the stories and personalities of the collection. Produced by Britains Ltd, the figures also reflect the craftsmanship of early British lead toy making.

Gussie retains his original painted finish, with minor paint loss and gentle signs of age. At 4 cm tall, he has a lovely presence when displayed amongst other Cococubs, vintage animal figures or a collection of small British curiosities.
