This original 1930s Granny Owl figure was made by Britains Ltd for Cadbury’s Cococub series. Cast in hollow lead and hand painted, she retains much of her original painted finish, with her spectacles giving her an unmistakable storybook appearance.
The Cococub characters were created by British illustrator Ernest Aris. Issued in pre war Cadbury Bournville Cocoa tins, the figures brought his illustrated animals into everyday homes as part of Cadbury’s advertising.
At just 3.5 cm tall, Granny Owl makes a fitting companion for a row of favourite books. Display her in a small cabinet or printer’s tray, or alongside woodland artwork to add an unexpected detail to your room.
