An instantly recognisable little character from the Cadbury Cococubs, with original green paint and a wonderful connection to Ernest Aris.
This original Brother Rabbit figure dates from the 1930s and was designed by celebrated British illustrator and character designer Ernest Aris for Cadbury Bournville. Cast in hollow lead and hand painted in its original green finish, he is a lovely example of the imaginative characters created around the Cococub story.
The Cococubs formed part of Cadbury’s advertising during the 1930s, bringing a cast of illustrated personalities into the world of Cadbury cocoa. Ernest Aris was responsible for many of these memorable character designs, giving the figures a distinctive charm that has kept them fascinating to collectors many decades later.
Brother Rabbit has retained his original painted finish, with only light signs of age. His simple form and expressive character make him particularly appealing displayed alongside other Cococubs, or amongst a collection of vintage toys and small curiosities.
A lovely piece of 1930s Cadbury history, connecting British illustration, childhood and the golden age of character advertising.
