A small woodland character from the 1930s, with the quiet appeal of a figure that has lived a long life.
This original Bill Badger figure was produced by Britains Ltd for Cadbury Bournville during the 1930s. Cast in hollow lead and hand painted, he has a distinctive upright pose and simple period design that gives him plenty of presence despite his small scale.
The Cococubs formed part of Cadbury’s imaginative advertising during the 1930s, creating a cast of named characters around the promotion of Cadbury cocoa. Their miniature figures combined playful storytelling with the craftsmanship of early British lead figure making, offering a fascinating glimpse into the world of childhood and advertising of the period.
Bill Badger has an authentically aged painted finish, with areas of wear and some flaking that reflect his age. These details give the figure a wonderfully honest appearance and make him feel very much like an original survivor from the 1930s.
His woodland character would sit beautifully alongside other Cococub figures, vintage animal pieces or early British miniatures, whether displayed on a shelf or amongst a collection of small curiosities.
