1930s Britains Cadbury Cococub Gussie Robin Lead Figure

A red breasted robin bringing a familiar garden bird into miniature.

This original 1930s Gussie Robin figure was made by Britains Ltd for Cadbury’s Cococub series. Hand painted in warm red and brown tones, he retains his original finish with small areas of paint loss reflecting his age.

The Cococub characters were created by British illustrator Ernest Aris. Issued in pre war Cadbury Bournville Cocoa tins, the figures brought his illustrated animals into everyday homes as part of Cadbury’s advertising.

At 4 cm tall, Gussie makes a fitting companion to a vintage bird book or botanical print. Display him in a small cabinet, or place him beside contemporary ceramics where his red breast adds a subtle accent of colour.

A miniature British garden bird with a story rooted in 1930s advertising.
