1920s Britains Swan Hand Painted Lead Bird Figure

A beautiful 1920s Britains swan in hand painted lead, modelled in an elegant swimming pose with a soft cream finish and remarkably well preserved detail.

Measuring 4.5 cm long, this is a larger and particularly graceful example of an early Britains water bird. The flowing swimming pose gives the swan a wonderful sense of movement, while its curved neck and soft cream colouring create an unusually elegant little figure.

Made by Britains Ltd during the 1920s, this early lead figure reflects the careful modelling and hand painted finish used to bring familiar countryside animals and birds into miniature form. The larger proportions give the swan a lovely presence, making it especially appealing amongst the smaller early farm and water bird figures.
